Tollywood heroes turn lucky mascots

Low on budget and high on content, a slew of small-ticket films have taken the Tollywood screen by storm this year. But apart from the gripping screenplay, realistic settings and intelligent actors, there's another X factor that small budget filmmakers believe is adding to their movies' success formula — top stars gracing their promotional events!

In a rather superstitious industry like ours, after the big buzz that Venkatesh was bringing luck to all the movies, whose sets he visited, the latest belief is that Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan to Allu Arjun are bringing luck to movies by attending their audio launch bashes.
It all started with Pawan Kalyan gracing the audio launch of the Nithiin-starrer Ishq. The film completed its successful run of 100 days and was a much-needed hit for Nithiin, who was going through a lean patch. Next followed superstar Mahesh Babu, who attended the audio launch of Aadi's Lovely. The small-budget flick went on to have a good run at the box office and many industrywallahs attributed a lot of its success to the luck factor brought in by Mahesh Babu.
An industry insider says, "There is much talk in the industry about big stars being lucky mascots. Another example that is being spoken about is Ee Rojullo, proving to be a big draw at the box office, thanks to Allu Arjun attending the movie's music release. The film made on a shoestring budget has completed 100 days, enabling the cast to embark on their film careers." Earlier in the year, this trend was sparked by reports that after Venkatesh visited Mahesh Babu on the sets of Dookudu and Pawan Kalyan's Gabbar Singh, both movies became a hit.
However, Maruthi, director of Ee Rojullo believes that more than luck to the project, it is the goodwill and endorsement of the big stars that add value to the movie. "Generally, the presence of the stars lend credibility and authenticity. It extends the reach of the film and fans of that star will support the film too. No wonder then that when celebs attended the audio launches of small films, they got better mileage." Now only if getting lucky was so easy!
