Adhisaya Ulagam (2012) Tamil Movie Review

Synopsis: Neelakantan (Livingstone), a scientist, invents a teleporting device, but, by accident, he and his grandchildren Varsha ( Sreelakshmy) and Vikas ( Prithvi) are teleported to the Jurassic age. And, they need electricity to get back...

Movie Review: It might seem snobbish and even pointless to review a movie that is pitched for kids with the same yardstick that one applies for a normal film, but still, a movie is a movie is a movie, right? Forget Hollywood standards, for a film that claims to be India's first film on dinosaurs and comes in 3D, you expect a half-decent narrative to keep you hooked. Even a film with tacky graphics can make for an engaging watch if you have an involving storyline and the Spy Kids films are a proof of this.

But when even the five-year-old kids in the theatre get restless, it is a clear sign that the filmmaker has failed as a storyteller. The plot of Adhisaya Ulagam is a cross between Back To The Future and Jurassic Park and all that Shakthi Scott had to do was give us characters to care about and establish proper relationship between them and the animals. But what we get is cardboard cutouts in place of characters with the poor 3D making their lack of dimensions even more evident. The film features a talking dog (borrowed from Pixar's Up) and a friendly dinosaur, but no, don't get excited. A stroll in Vandalur zoo will be more exciting for kids than this bland Jurassic adventure.
